Andy Pettitte New York Yankees MLB 8x10 Photograph 2009 World Series Trophy

The Yankees opened the new Yankee Stadium at the beginning of the 2009 season, which quickly acquired a reputation as a home run-friendly ballpark. The Yankees set a major league record by playing error-free ball for 18 consecutive games from May 14June 1, 2009. After the All-Star Break, the Yankees started the second half of their season 8-0, and would go on to have a 52-22 record through the rest of the season, finishing eight games ahead of the Red Sox in the East. They would face the Twins in the ALDS, who had just won the Central off a one-game playoff with the Tigers. The Yankees defeated the Twins in a sweep, and faced the Angels in the ALCS, a team which had eliminated them from the playoffs twice in the previous seven years. After losing two out of three in Anaheim, the Yankees won the series in Game 6 at home, clinching the American League Pennant. They defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series 7 to 3, to take the series 42. The Series win added the Yankees 27th World Championship title to the storied franchise.
